A purple display can suit a desk, shelf, or photo setup when you want a steady block of color rather than a moving background. Before using Purple Screen as a light source, set your device’s display brightness to a comfortable level and place it where the glow is useful.
How to use Purple Screen
- Open Purple Screen and choose how you want to view it. Select Fullscreen for a larger color-only view, or Cleaning mode when you want touches ignored while you wipe the display. To leave Cleaning mode, press and hold for 2 seconds.
- Use Quick colors to switch to another preset, or choose Choose a custom color and adjust it with Color picker, HEX, RGB, HSL, Hue, Saturation, or Lightness. Reset, Copy HEX, and Share color are available for working with the selected color.
- For a softer or warmer appearance, use Screen light, Display brightness, and the Brightness and Warmth controls. The Sleep timer offers Off, 5 min, 15 min, 30 min, and 60 min options.
- To add a border effect, turn on Ring light frame and adjust Frame width, Warmth, and Brightness. These visual adjustments change how the page looks, not the saved color value.
- To save an image, choose Download a solid-color image, select PNG, JPEG, or WEBP, then pick a listed resolution or Custom dimensions. Enter Width (px) and Height (px), then select Download image.
When to use it
- Ambient desk lighting: Show a purple field on a spare monitor or phone for a steady wash of color.
- Checking red and blue subpixels together: Look for obvious irregularities on the same solid field. For a more focused pixel inspection, use the Dead Pixel Test.
- Preparing to clean a display: Cleaning mode ignores touches so an accidental tap does not change the view while you wipe. For spotting dust or smudges, a White Screen may be more useful.
- Adding a simple photo or video background: Use the purple page as a clean, uninterrupted color behind a subject or object.
- Making a solid-color asset: Download a purple image at a preset size or enter dimensions for a project.
- Comparing display appearance: Switch between Purple and the other Quick colors to see how your screen renders different solid colors.
- Creating a focused workspace: Use a single-color display when you want fewer visual details competing for attention.
Tips for a useful purple screen
For a quick visual check, look across the display from different angles and notice whether any area stands out from the surrounding color. Purple Screen can make red and blue subpixels visible together, but it is only a visual aid; use a dedicated test if you need to examine pixels more carefully.
If the purple looks too bright or too cool for your space, adjust Screen light or the display brightness and warmth. The page notes that brightness and warmth change the on-screen appearance, while the HEX value and downloaded image stay exact. That distinction helps when you want a comfortable live view but need a consistent color file.
When preparing a downloadable image, select the intended format and dimensions before saving. Custom dimensions can be from 16 to 8192 pixels per side, with a maximum of 33,177,600 pixels total. Keep in mind that an 8K image needs substantial memory and may fail on some devices; the image is created in your browser and stays there.
Limits of Purple Screen
Purple Screen displays a solid color; it does not measure color accuracy, diagnose a panel fault, or professionally calibrate a monitor. A visible subpixel issue on purple alone is not a definitive hardware diagnosis, and the result can vary with your display settings and the screen you are viewing it on.
Use it for a quick check, ambient color, or a simple background. If you need a fuller assessment of monitor behavior, use a dedicated display test; for a suspected hardware problem, contact the device manufacturer or a repair professional. Downloaded images are also limited by the available memory on your device, especially at very large dimensions.
